Lizzie is fickle, selfish and utterly fascinating, a born dictator, surrounded by a reputation for recklessness ever since her adolescence in Trieste. Adrian is shy, clumsy, unable to make a bold move, yet driven by dangerous desires. They work at the “aquarium”, a digital entertainment company, inventing games and imaginary worlds, Lizzie in the Imagination Department, Adrian in the department where the numbers are processed and “transform feelings and dreams into 0s and 1s”. Their meeting could not be more unlikely, yet they fall in love. They never see each other, but they write to each other every night. And the more the bodies evade each other and virtual contact spreads, the more they fall in love. Made only of words – “because Adrian writes, and how he writes…”
